Maybe, but what we do know is his Tribute series is all about paying homage to 90s house, catnip for nostalgic millennials in other words. Here we get three tributes with #5 leading the charges with an orgy of sampled soul loops and slammin' speedy beats. Elsewhere #6 takes us from filtered France to the US where we get a fusion of New York diva house and Good Life keyboard riffs and #7 ends with some euphoric retro garage grooves and hands in the air synth stabs. Review: Cheap Thrills are all about scouting the hot, new talent out there in the house-bass world, and they've done it again with Closer.
Although the outfit had already released on Record Union before being picked up by Cheap Thrills, it looks like they'll be forming a long-lasting bond. 'Xymbol01' is a true hybrid tune, incorporating elements of trip-hop, house, breaks and even a little bit of jazz thanks to its deep and funky bassline. Let's not forget those seductive vocals running all over the place, either, it's a tune for the dancers and one that will go down a storm on a system! Review: Goddard might be a new name around the house circles, but this man has already got our stamp of approval all over his grooves of 4/4. 'High Music' is powered by a deep, growling bassline that has more in common with dubstep or electro than traditional house music, and its slicing beats add further punch to this jittery dance floor conqueror; Cheap Thrills label-owner Herve storms through the place with his version of the tune, and we're faced with the same bassline except that here it's surrounded by a more classic house framework. 'Demon' is our kinda piece, a murky and dubby house slinger packed with shady vocal samples and a dusty percussion roll.

Review: Gawp is a name you may have seen pop up on labels like Main Course, San City High and Medium Rare in recent times. Teaming up with James Whitehead, aka Gymbo, for 3 tracks of bass driven house, this is their debut EP on Cheap Thrills Records and they are stepping out in style if we do say so ourselves! First track 'Subfood' is a right roller with subtle dub and hip-hop influences courtesy of the accompanying samples.
'Grit Your Teeth' gets a bit more street and well. Gritty (mind the pun!), we really liked this one and it's more suited to the late night. Finally 'Third Bass' goes deeper and is more stripped back than the previous offerings, allowing that bass to do more of the talking.
It will also appeal to fans of Hot Creations style tech house. Review: UK producer Joshua Harvey draws on classic garage influences for this release. You won't find any trace of Todd Edwards' drums or New Jersey cool here. Instead, Herve looks to the genesis of UK garage for inspiration. The title track revolves around a swinging groove and a fathomic bassline, but the floaty vocals recall the female-friendly Twice as Nice zone.
There are no such niceties on 'Whistle'; underpinned by a raga baseline and virulent horror stabs, it has just as much in common as 'ardkore. Finally, 'Pressure' sees Herve venture into deeper territory thanks to chiming chords, but the menacing subs serve as a reminder that things could get nasty at any turn. Review: Cheap Thrills has always been about keeping things fresh and moving forward, refusing to be pigeon holed, largely down to Herve being behind it of course. As the label continues to evolve we see this great EP from the hotly tipped Housquare (whom won a remix comp for the man himself last year).
Two big tracks here full of classic house vibes alongside futuristic sounds, 'Subshine' is an instant feel good crowd pleaser that will fit in a the full spectrum of musical styles. 'Moonlight' is all about the minor chords, still on the old school vibe, but with more of an underground flair.
This is big people!! Review: Jack Beats is the production brainchild of scratch DJs Beni G (Mixologists) and Plus One (Scratch Perverts).
Cheap Thrills seems to be Jack Beats perfect match with EP releases in 2009, 2010 and now again in 2011. This time, they have teamed up with Beta Recordings label owner John B whose extensive discography is nothing short of impressive. 'All Night' is a belter, an inescapable track riddled with funk and groove, jackin' basslines and a classic sounding vocal.
The release boasts a remix from dubstep don Skream, who lifts the vocal and utilises some burning electro synth stabs. 'Elevator Music' brings the EP to a close with rubber rhythms, tightly sprung beats and rapid percussion.
